"Kedai bundle" anyone?

If you have not explored "kedai bundle", perhaps you may want to consider it one of these days. I have been to a couple of really huge "kedai bundle" in Tawau and Keningau and I must say although I didn't know what to expect...but I kid you not how surprise I was looking at the things that can be found at such places. Mind you, those are second hand stuff but they are mostly imported from Korea or Japan and of good brands and in good and some in great/excellent conditions."Kedai bundle" as they are popularly known have a lot of things to offer in terms of shoes, handbags and mostly clothing. I've bought quite a few still in good condition handbags many years ago in Tawau and quite a few jeans clothing for kids from Keningau few years back too. I have always wanted to visit one of the "kedai bundle" nearby in town like the one near to the Phillipines Market and the one in Dongonggon but I've yet done so.

I guess many may not even consider going to such places to shop. But I have quite a few friends who can pretty well afford brand new branded clothing yet still go to these places to shop. When I asked why, they said why not. Those are authentic and it is the same as buying used items from ebay. The only difference is that "kedai bundle" are found in the "pasar gantung" area - not a glamourous area to be seen shopping I must admit ;p But from what I gathered from a friend who is married to a Japanese guy and have moved back here from Japan, Japanese likes to shop so most of their clothings are still in good conditions or not even worn when they give away. I personally don't mind to shop at these places especially for jeans clothing and kids clothing as kids do grow up very fast and normally those items are used only for a short while. So to me even if they are used, (of coz we need to use our common sense when choosing and buying right..) they are not heavily used if you know what I mean :)

Anyway, when I read Joyce S.'s entry yesterday, I was really surprise and excited to know that they even sell diaper covers too! When it was time to wake hubby up, I excitedly woke him up and persuaded him to bring me to the one in Dongongon ;p But we had an appointment and came home late yesterday so we didn't manage to go. Fortunately I left a message and asked Joyce S. to help me buy and much to my delight, she has kindly help me buy 2 sets yesterday and even managed to get 1 free diaper cover!! Wooohoooo!!! Here are the diaper covers she helped me buy. All 7 pieces for RM20 only! FYI, the bottom picture, I've bought an exact piece - the one with the stripey light blue print from JS Shopper in Japan for around RM60 (pack of 2)! So u tell me, worth buying or not???!!! ;p But I guess it will not be suitable for fussy buyers la ;p

I loikey.............thanks so much Joyce S.!! :)

Folding prefolds cloth diapers

As I intend to use prefolds on bb#2 during the first few weeks, I'm keeping these videos for my own future reference.

The first video shows 4 basic ways of folding prefolds using a cover and snappi.

The second video shows folding prefolds without using snappi. But it is not a well recommended method because as the baby moves around more and more, the diaper will shift and you will get a blowout. However, this method will do better than a simple tri-fold.

Mutaquinbaby diapers - last day of sale

This is an announcement I got in my mailbox this morning from Muttaquinbaby... just to share with the CDs mommies in case you're interested ;p

"Hi all,
This is the last day for the "buy2get1free" coupon :) I also wanted to mention I stocked more aio's and also some front and side snapping larges :) thanks for your reading!
Michelle
www.muttaquinbaby.com/store"

I got this in my inbox at 4.05am today (1st Nov), so if you're interested wait no more ;p

So did I get any? I certainly did! Ordered the fitted 3 Step Rise 1 Size which I can test on Ethan since he is not fully potty trained yet and of course for our second baby later on :) Yes, I've started my shopping for bb #2 especially on diaper covers, prefolds, just a few sized cds and a few fitted as I intend to fully cloth diaper bb #2 ...that is if he is not as super heavy wetter like his big bro Ethan hehe.. but for sure I will start bb #2 on cloth diaper earlier this time...I only started cloth diapering Ethan when he was 6 months old. I intend to start CDing bb#2 after his confinement...for the first few days or weeks I may put him on either prefolds or the traditional napkins with cd covers on...

CD Tips: Of Leaks And Stinks And Stains And More

This is purely a cut and paste from Farrah's blog on the title above. Mainly for my own reference and/or reminder. Thanks Farrah for the great tips!! :)

CD Tips: Of Leaks And Stinks And Stains And More by Farrah Rahim
I've shared a few CD tips in some forums. So perhaps I should share them here too.

These tips I learned from my readings over the Internet, and mostly from my CD guru, none other than Sandra of Miabambina.com. And much of them, I learned from my 21 months of cloth diapering experience.

Leaks

1) Detergent or/and oil build up due to using too much detergent, poor rinsing, using oil based diaper rash cream, using softener, etc. Hot wash and strip wash your diapers.

2) Wrong diaper sizing, or the diaper isn't put on properly. You will know this if your finger can slip in easily through the waist or the thigh.

3) Using too much inserts. If you use too much insert on smaller babies, it sometimes may result in leaking via the waist or the thighs too. Like for instance, when you use a onesize Wahmies microfiber insert in a small size pocket Drybees on a small 2mo baby. It happened to me.

4) Not laying microfiber insert on top of hemp insert. Hemp is slow in absorbing. Lay the microfiber insert on top of hemp to assist in quicker absorbancy.

Stinks

As the baby started to eat food, and even more, as the toddler started to eat varieties of food, it is very natural for the urine to stink a little. Just think, if the urine doesn't smell, it is just NOT NORMAL at all!

However, if the smell is sword sharp stink and burns through your nose, something is just not right. Most probably, you have detergent residue in your diapers. Detergent residue acts with urine to produce overpowering stinky smell.

Again, do the hot wash and the strip wash.

Stains

The sun is our best friend! It's the best natural bleach for your diapers.

Hang your diapers with the stained parts facing the sunlight. For better results, get the full benefits from the early morning sun.

Some of the stains may not be gone. Don't worry, they will, over few washes and dries. Just remember, if the stain is still there, it doesn't mean your diaper isn't clean. Just think of the blood or curry stains that you were not able to remove from your clothes. The stains are there but they are clean nonetheless. The same principle applies.

Washing : Back To Basic

ALWAYS remember:-

1) NEVER EVER over use detergent. Read the instructions on the label of your detergent bottle/box, and use ONLY 1/4-1/3 of the recommended amount of detergent for that particular amount of wash load.

2) Use the RIGHT detergent. Do not use detergents that have enzymes, whitener, or any other super powerful features in them. They are bad for baby soft skin and may cause severe diaper rashes, especially whitening enzymes. Read the label carefully. Just use the most basic detergent you can find.

3) Do NOT use SOFTENER! They will cause build up in your diapers and you will end up with leaking problems.

4) Do NOT use BLEACH! They might actually eat up your diapers and before you even know it, your diapers will all already be reput. Plus, bleach is very unkind to baby's skin and may cause rashes. If

5) Do NOT use SOAP (as in hand and body soap)! You may think they do wonders in removing stains but they are also actually very wonderful in creating build up in your diapers. Just look at your bathroom, how often do you have to scrub the walls and floor?

6) Rinse WELL! It doesn't matter if you machine wash or hand wash your diapers. The most important thing is to rinse well enough! If you machine wash your diapers, I would recommend adding a prewash or another rinse cycle. If you hand wash your diapers, use enough water, but remember not to cause water wastage!

7) I would recommend the dry pail method over the wet pail method. Wet pail method is just so yucky. You'll be soaking your diapers in a pool of urine, unless you rinse them first before soaking them. Just toss your diapers from the dry pail straight into your washing machine.

If you follow these simple basic rules, you may find you won't actually need to do any strip washing at all!

Other Recommendations

1) Do NOT use oil-based diaper rash cream. I would recommend the Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm. It works wonders! Not only does it work in healing rashes, you can also use it for insect bites, bruises and small cuts. It heals pretty fast too! Smells nice and not so sticky either. If you really have to use those oil based cream, make sure you use a nappy barrier, like a nappy liner, and just use a thin layer of the cream.

2) When your baby is on medication especially antibiotics, you will notice some brownish stain on his diapers, especially the inserts. That is absolutely NORMAL. Just remember to wash the diapers immediately and not to keep the used diapers for too long in the dry pail. This is important to prevent mold and also the brown stain from setting in for good. What I would usually do is to rinse the diapers before dumping them into the dry pail, and shorten the wash cycle from my usual 2-3 days cycle to only 1-2 day wash cycle. Don't worry though, the brown stain will dissappear over several wash and dry cycles.

3) To increase the lifespan of your diapers, use laundry nets, especially for natural diapers like those made of bamboo, hemp and organic cotton.

4) Snap off GENTLY. Get it? Hehe, what I meant was, handle your snap diapers with care. Take off the snaps gently, don't rip them off in a rush. Otherwise you will find the snaps coming off from the diaper entirely pretty soon enough, especially if the diaper is made of natural fibre.

On another note, just for the record, I just bought our 2nd pack of Mamypoko for this year. This time around, for the first time, I bought the largest pack (66 pieces). Let's see if it can last till the end of the year ;).

Preloved CDs (ALL SOLD!!)

Hi all CD mommies or soon to be CD mommies out there, am letting go some of my CDs.

Main reasons:

  • Ethan has the tendency to undress himself especially those with aplix unless we put pants on him. This however can be too warm for our weather during the day! So some of his size L Drybees will have to go...
  • Some fittings just not so right for him -Bumwear OS and WAHM size L
  • Some WAHM cds need extra doublers as Ethan is a super heavy wetter which makes these cds too bulky for him
  • Make rooms for new ones of coz...well, I can't lie can I?! hahaha...

So if you're interested, here are some of the stash am letting go. If you need bigger and more image(s) just let me know and I'll email them to you.

  • All CDs are in good condition except one or two that have slight fading after several wash but their function is not affected. This will also be indicated in the description.

  • However, I may consider discounts/ free shipping if you purchase more.
  • Payment can be transferred to either my Maybank or CIMB bank account or COD for those staying in KK area.

The last of CDs...for now ;p

The much long awaited CD has finally arrived in the mail end of last week. I've actually pre-ordered this particular OS Blueberry pattern with snap buttons from http://www.lildanzell.com/ a few months back. But Grace's supplies (shipment via sea) from the US have only arrived recently. Nevertheless, I'm very much satisfied with the happy and vibrant color of this CD. Don't you think the colours spell "FUN" ? :)

Anyway, I think I shall stop CD shopping for now as Ethan has plentiful of them now thanks to his CDholic mom!! ;p And even if I have to buy more, it will have to be OS (one size) only when we get pregnant with 2nd baby ;) So for now the CDsholic mommy shall rest her poor fingers from clicking away!! Fingers and toes crossed!!

KK CD Mommies Pre-Xmas Party

Ethan loves being outdoor, he would usually asks us to bring him out of the door if we've been cooped up in the apartment the whole day. He will either take and try to put his hat on or take and try to put on his shoes and point the door to us hehe...So when Sandra and Miranda suggested to have a gathering at Langkah Syabas, we decided it would be great to bring him to the Pre-Xmas party :) Thanks to the organizers i.e. Miranda and Sandra for the fabulous time especially the horse ride which Ethan loved so much! He loved the swimming pool too but too bad we or rather his mommy only allowed him in the pool for a short while as the water was a bit on the cold side...didn't want him to catch cold or fever okay hee...I think Ethan really had a fantastic time..especially with the horse rides, swimming in the pool and not forgetting him chasing after the Labrador dog, walking around the area including by the seaside, and playing and almost strangled the tabby cat near the horse barn, getting his first Christmas present and chasing after Avi's stroller!! ;p The lunch buffet at the restaurant was great too and hubby said we will definitely go back there especially so that Ethan could have a longer ride on the cartwheel again :)

The daddies with their boys
Ethan not impressed and couldn't be bothered with the Santa Claus ;p

Ethan enjoying his first ride :)
and refused to get down from the cart while Shayna eagerly waiting for her turn ;p
Group pic of Ethan and hubby with Shayna and Ted
Ethan playing with the horsie ;p
As we took him away from the horse to let the other kids ride on it, Ethan started to cry...awwww...
So in the end he got another ride with Mummy dearest ;p But was he satisfied after the 2nd ride? Nope he cried again heehehe...
After the cart ride, we had lunch at the restaurant and here Deana with hubby and cute lil' Sona
Ethan drinking beer???? NOT!! ;p
Burp...!! "Excuse me" said Ethan ;p
Having a walk with his daddy by the sea side...

Yeeha!! It's swimming time!! (will post him enjoying the pool after this post hehe..)

Again by the seaside after swimming, bath and his milk ;p

Playing with his new toy :)
But wait, the wheels on Avi's stroller is bigger and more fun to play with, wait for me Avi!!!
The gorgeous mummiew with their adorable babies! :)
Sulking Ethan, can't remember about what ;p
Look at the tired faces ;p
Ethan was flat out just about a couple of mins in the car. Slept throughout the journey back and 2 hrs after we put him in his cot at home :)

THE END

I'm lovin' it!!

Yay! The new Geny cloth diaper cover (you can read the review here) has arrived and I'm sooo in love with it!! :)

See the color combination and the swirly design...I like!!!! ;p
Oh lately am into fitted cds especially during the weekend and when Ethan is taking his long afternoon nap. It lasts longer than pocket cds though it won't last on Ethan without leaking for night use I supposed..I'm assuming it won't last for night use in Ethan's case as the cover will be wet after about 4-5 hrs...I've even tried putting bamboo insert as doubler in between the cover and fitted cd but still it can't last more than 5 hours...anybody out there care to share how to tackle this issue are most welcome :)

KK CD Mommies Gathering

Again, am a bit outdated as this gathering happened last Sunday. I'm sure some of you may have already read about it from Suzan and Miranda ;p Well, here's my version of the gathering.

It was good to have finally met some of the CDs mommies in KK. Janelle who's back home from Ozzie land shared with us her experience with fitted cds and show some of her favourite (but not cheap!) fitted cds too. All the mommies brougth their little ones to the gathering except me. Why? Coz Ethan wasn't feeling well then..actually he still hasn't fully recovered from his cold and cough.. my poor baby...we just hope he will have a speedy recovery soon...

BTW, while we mommies were yapping away and looking at Janelle's CDs, Ted, Suzan's handsome lil' boy was busy eating or rather playing with his Vedablu ice cream. Buying him the ice cream (not forgetting a book from the nearby Times bookstore) was Suzan's trick to get him to sit down for a while instead of chasing after him from one end to another end of the place. Poor Suzan as I'm sure she must be very tired chasing after Ted hee...gee I wonder what will I face when Ethan starts walking...

The two early birds were Miranda and Suzan@Osindak then came Janelle before I made my appearance ;p
Now here's one talented coming to 3rd time Mom, Janelle, who can sew cute CDs .
I did ordered a couple of minky CDs from her previously :)

Ted enjoying his dipper ;p

Ted busy playing with Vedablu ice cream...must be slurpy yumms till Ted decided to use his hands too...

Sunita joined us later on too...
Then came Bonnie and we managed to take a group photo - say cheese everyone!! :)
